Allan Wood - Non-Executive Joint Chair
How long have you been working for Harmoni?
Six years.
What is the best part of your job?
Looking back at how Harmoni has repeatedly achieved objects believed by many in the NHS as impossible, then looking forward and seeing 10 years of opportunity to continue this success.
Why do you enjoy working for Harmoni?
I am proud that we are changing the way that primary care is delivered, on scale and in a manner that is starting to influence the NHS. I truly believe Harmoni will become widely acknowledged as a substantive positive influence on the quality of primary care expected by patients and commissioners.
How does your role affect Harmoni's vision of 'treating patients as family'?
One of a Chairman's responsibilities is to balance the priority and impact of the three main stakeholder groups; employees, customers, shareholders. It may sound counter intuitive but to keep the vision of 'treating patients as family' we need a healthy company with happy and committed employees, and enough profits to provide cash to invest in our future.
Background...
I am a mathematician with a background of running large service firms and fast growing companies. The services have included IT, consulting, outsourcing, finance & accounting, wealth management, customer services and now primary care. More importantly I am married with a 16 year old daughter and twin 13 year old boys.
A day in the life...
Today Andrew [Gardner] and I had a few discussions on what programme management support would accelerate the transformation of our Out of Hours processes and I read through some GP Consortia commissioning pathfinder papers from the government. In theory my role is 3 days a month but to be honest I enjoy working with Harmoni so much that I'm happy that it occupies a small part of most days.
A little-know fact about you...
I am a proud supporter of Wolverhampton Wanderers FC!
What did you want to be when you grew up?
6" tall, happy and an architect like my father. One out of three isn't bad!
