Bruce Websdale – Medical Director
How long have you been working for Harmoni?
I joined Harmoni in September 2010.
What is the best part of your job?
Meeting people and working with my central clinical governance team and the wider business to find better ways of ensuring we deliver efficient and safe high quality services to all our patients.
Why do you enjoy working for Harmoni?
I enjoy the positivity and 'can do' attitude of the people I work with along with their ability to put patients first.
How does your role affect Harmoni's vision of 'treating patients as family'?
It is a core mantra for my approach to patients, not only in Harmoni but in my role as a GP. In my role as Medical Director I am forever promoting this vision, and unfortunately am involved when things go wrong and patients complain! So I understand intimately the importance of treating patients right in the first instance.
Background...
I qualified from Cambridge and London in 1983 and underwent my initial training followed by a year of peripatetic work including aero-medical repatriation and ships doctor. I set up my own private practice in Harley Street in 1989 and selling up in 2003 rejoined NHS General Practice. I worked for 2 years as Medical Director on the department of Health's Independent Treatment Centre programme finishing in 2006. Shortly after this I joined Primecare as Group Medical Director where I worked for 3 years before joining Harmoni as Medical Director in September 2010
A day in the life...
I attend a lot of meetings often back-to-back in order to maximise the opportunity to work directly with my team and the wider business. This can be very hectic and often means e-mail catch up in the evening. That said, I try to get home to my family in the evening and often delay my e-mails to early the next morning when I am up by 6am for the school run!
A little-know fact about you...
I spend almost all my Sunday mornings during the rugby season coaching my son's under 12 team and love watching rugby.
What did you want to be when you grew up?
A Heart Surgeon or a pilot.
