Hanley Health and Wellbeing Centre

Hanley Health and Wellbeing Centre is open 365 days a year, from 8a.m. until 8p.m. It is primarily a GP practice although patients do not have to be registered with the centre in order to receive treatment. As well as minor illness and injury appointments, we also provide the following services:

  • New patient checks
  • Asthma and Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD)
  • Diabetes, Hypertension and Cholesterol
  • Child health surveillance
  • Family planning
  • Health promotion clinics
  • Lifestyle/healthy eating
  • Support to stop smoking
  • Coronary heart screening
  • Cervical screening

Most of these services are offered in flexible appointments throughout the week rather than in specific clinics.

The centre has been open since December 31st 2009 and seen over 28,000 walk-in patients. 1,844 patients have registered with the centre.

Please see the Hanley Health and Wellbeing Centre website for more information.

Service feedback

Patient feedback

Patients visiting the service in the summer of 2010 were asked about their experience at the centre and the care they received. The following is the story that one patient told us:

Patient X had initially attended as a walk-in and then decided to register with the practice. He had contacted the surgery for advice on a blood sugar reading that he didn't understand. He was given advice on corrective treatment and asked to attend the centre immediately as his condition required prompt medical care. The patient was very grateful for this as he had not realised that the situation was serious. If he hadn't been able to speak to anyone, he would not have taken any action. He also said that he found it useful to have appointments out of work hours.

The patient praised the service and commented that "the service could have been built around me", describing it as a "Rolls Royce service".
