North Colchester Healthcare Centre

The North Colchester Healthcare Centre allows patients to receive healthcare between 7a.m. and 10p.m., 365 days a year. The centre provides all the normal GP services with the flexibility, convenience and appointments at times to suit patient's lifestyle. The services at the centre include:

- GP services for registered patients

- GP and nurse appointments for walk-in patients for the following:

• Minor illnesses
• Minor injuries e.g. sprains, minor cuts etc
• Emergency contraception and advice
• Smoking cessation

- A phlebotomy service Monday - Friday 7a.m. – 2p.m.

The centre has been open for over 18 months and has already seen over 145,000 walk-in and phlebotomy patients. The centre is also proving a popular choice as the GP surgery for patients living in Colchester town.

An award winning centre

The early success of the centre was recognised when awarded the prestigious GP training practice status granted by the East of England Deanery just one year after opening. The GP training practice status enables the centre to offer practical training to new GPs. In addition to the centres award, two of the Harmoni GPs who work at the centre have been recognised: Dr Min Thaung has been awarded GP trainer status and Dr Marjorie Gillespie associate trainer status.

Marjorie Gillespie, clinical director said: "The visiting team from the East of England Deanery were highly impressed with the service offered and have awarded the maximum possible two year approval status on a first time visit".

"We are able to provide a unique environment for trainee GPs who will be exposed to a wide variety of clinical practice due to the range of patients we treat. It is also good for us to be supporting the development of a locally trained GP workforce".
