GP Led Health Centres
The Centres provide a range of services, including primary medical care services as defined in the General Medical Services (GMS) contract, through an Alternative Provider Medical Services (APMS) contract. Services are available to both registered and non-registered patients.
The key objectives of GP led Health Centres are:
• To provide patients with greater access to NHS primary medical care and extended primary care services through additional capacity
• To improve the quality of primary medical care available to patients
• To deliver affordable and Value for Money (VfM) NHS primary medical services
• To provide innovative services that meet the needs of a diverse population, including socially excluded groups
• To support the PCT’s programme to improve the health of the population and reduce health inequalities in health outcomes.
The needs of the population are diverse, and expected patients of GP led Health Centres (with their extended opening times) will include a significant number who may currently feel disenfranchised by health services, through perceptions of inaccessibility of services. These new centres aim to give vulnerable groups the ability and confidence to access mainstream healthcare services.
